Modelling substance inputs into Luxembourg’s surface waters using the MoRE model (2015 - 2019)

Short description

For Luxembourg, an emission inventory was compiled using the MoRE model as part of the reporting under the Water Framework Directive. This was based on a preliminary study that demonstrated the applicability of the model using Luxembourgish datasets. In that study, substance inputs from point sources—wastewater treatment plants and industrial direct dischargers—had already been calculated for the period 2015–2017, and initial load estimates were carried out.

In the present project, the modelling was expanded to include point-source inputs for 2018–2019 as well as diffuse input pathways, including erosion, groundwater runoff, interflow, surface runoff, drainage, atmospheric deposition, and urban areas. This enabled a complete calculation of nutrient inputs for 2015–2019. One focus was the further development of load calculation. In addition, pollutant inputs, including heavy metals and PAHs, were quantified for the first time.
