Short description
Building on the results of substance input modelling, this project examined measures to reduce nutrient pollution in Luxembourg’s surface waters. The focus was on inputs from wastewater treatment plants and their impact on water quality.
To this end, discharges as well as nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations in surface waters were analysed and linked to modelled substance inputs. On this basis, the contribution of measures already implemented was assessed, along with the additional reductions that could be achieved in the future through more stringent requirements for effluent quality. In addition, the influence of individual wastewater treatment plants on substance inputs and water pollution was investigated.
