Angaben zur Person
Bevor er zum KIT kam, war Mário Franca ordentlicher Professor an der TUDelft und der UNESCO-IHE Delft und hatte akademische Führungspositionen an der École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), der Neuen Universität Lissabon und der Universität Coimbra inne.
Er verfügt über mehr als 25 Jahre Erfahrung als Berater im Wasserbau und hat an angewandten Projekten zur Notfallplanung bei natürlichen Überschwemmungen und Dammbrüchen, zur Planung von Dämmen, zur Wasserkraft, zur Wasserversorgung, zum Flussbau und zur Sicherheit von Wasserinfrastrukturen mitgewirkt und diese geleitet. Er ist aktives Mitglied der IAHR, EGU und AGU und ist seit 2016 Associate Editor der Water Resources Research (AGU).
Forschungsinteressen
Mário Francas Forschungsbemühungen sind im Allgemeinen der Erforschung der Mechanik von fließendem Wasser und seiner Wechselwirkungen mit anorganischen, organischen und anthropogenen Elementen in Flüssen gewidmet.
Zu seinen Forschungsinteressen gehören die Analyse von Hochwassergefahren und -risiken, Flussbau, Sicherheit von Wasserbauwerken, turbulente Prozesse in offenen Gerinnen, Sedimenttransport, Hydromorphodynamik von Flüssen, Dichteströmungen und nicht-konventionelle Wasserkrafterzeugung.
